What happened at OrbitDB during January 2024
OrbitDB 2.0 now available
We are excited to announce the release of OrbitDB 2.0. OrbitDB 2.0 fully supports Helia, IPFS's Javascript implementation. We hope this new release will inspire developers to build decentralized replacements of many of today's centralized web applications.
Please note, OrbitDB 2.0 will not be backwards compatible with js-ipfs, which is now in maintenance mode.
OrbitDB Quickstart
With the release of OrbitDB 2.0 comes OrbitDB Quickstart, a version of OrbitDB with default Helia and Libp2p configuration baked in.
Quickstart is designed for users who are interested in "kicking the OrbitDB tyres" but don't want the steep learning curve associated with Helia and Libp2p.
Funding
OrbitDB is an open-source project, built, maintained and supported by a core team of developers who are also community members. We aren't financed by big investors and we don't have a cryptocurrency token. Instead, we rely on the contributions of donors to keep this project moving ahead.
We have big plans for OrbitDB, especially with the release of version 2.0, but we cannot make these happen without funding. We have recently set up a funding goal on our Open Collective page and welcome cryptocurrency donations via our various public addresses.
Additionally, if you are looking for assistance or consultation with your OrbitDB implementations, we have a small but knowledgeable team who are available. Feel free to email us at info@orbitdb.org.
